Every September, Leelanau Country organic farmer Gene Garthe drops off a 600-lb. box of fresh-picked Bosc pears. It’s all they have and we cherish them like precious gems. We hand peel and dice and all go into this very unique, old-world preserves. They don’t always last until the next harvest, so you may want to buy this one by the case.
The farm of Gene and Kathy Garthe is fourth-generation and in its history once ran an on-farm restaurant for 30 years that served food grown only on the farm. As Gene said, “All food was local back then.”
