Food For Thought was founded by Timothy Young over 20 years ago, based on a passion about food, where it comes from and how it impacts our lives and the lives of those that grow it. Carrying this forward, we continue to have relationships with our farmers, purchase fair trade sugar and are in constant search of ingredients that not only meet our high quality standards, but are also responsibly grown and sourced – organic, non-GMO, fair trade. (Please read our section “Why Organic” to learn more.) We make products in small batches to highest possible standards, and strive to be the best quality available anywhere. We are the proud and humble recipients of two Good Food Awards (2017, 2018).
It all started on Young’s small organic farm located in northern Michigan in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, where we continue to grow our organic peppers, lavender and basil. Timothy was joined by his brother, Greg Young in 2015 to run the business, and three years later moved the operation to a refurbished, previously abandoned elementary school near Traverse City where we have expanded farming, food production and opened our first ever retail store. We continue to honor our founding principles that result in products that are small batch, use intentional ingredients and are finished with a great deal of love and commitment.
